Touma Kamijou is the main protagonist of Kazuma Kamachi's A Certain Magical Index light novel series. He is just an ordinary high school student caught in the middle of a magic vs. science war. His signature ability is Imagine Breaker, which essentially negates any magic- or science-related superpower that comes into contact with his right fist, but also gives him terrible luck as a result (but not when it comes to scoring a harem of girls apparently).
Touma is one of the most popular male anime characters, especially in East Asian countries. In Takarajimasha's Konorano Japanese light novel rankings, he was one of the "Big 3" male characters (alongside Hachiman and Kirito) who dominated the top male spots during the 2010's, placing 1st on three separate editions. He's also gained recognition in China due to being in the same series as Bilibili. In contrast, Touma is relatively unpopular in Western online communities due to the anime adaptation's mixed reception there.
As a consequence of his popularity in East Asia, the spiky-haired student is a major powerhouse in ISML's male division, which has a large contingent of voters from the region. His best result came off the back of a Railgun T and Biribiri-inspired run in 2020 when he placed third after defeating Kaguya-sama's Yu Ishigami in the consolation match. Touma is ISML's most prolific pendant contestant, having the most round appearances, and tying Archer and Hachiman Hikigaya for most pendants with 4 after he won his second straight emerald pendant in ISML 2021. As it stands today, Touma's performance means that the Raildex series has a high chance to field two ISML champions of the same gender, after Accelerator's victory in 2015.

He is either the luckiest guy in the world or the most unfortunate one of them all. Kamijō Tōma lives a normal school life with his peers. Everything about his life would have been just the way he wanted if it were not for that right hand of his. His right hand is said to negate all kinds of phenomena, including his own luck. Finding himself in precarious positions more often than not, Tōma wonders why he has this mysterious power and why he has to go through these series of misfortunes. How hard can it be to have a normal life? But then again, Tōma is not the type to just stand by and watch things unfold when evil starts to lurk in the shadows. Call him brave or reckless, but Tōma will do anything if it means getting his friends out of trouble and making sure that justice is served. Tōma is willing to face even gods if they are trying to harm those whom he cares about the most. After all, fighting the bad guys is probably less stressful than trying to get a drink and change from a broken vending machine. Even if the thing seemed to work perfectly fine the other day. If there are any villains out there trying to ruin the peace of Tōma’s city, they have to go through him first. With his right hand, Tōma will make sure to shatter their illusions. |

With Mikoto winning the necklace, Touma the pendant, and Index the bracelet at the same gem round (2020 Emerald), this image was used for their ISML posters.
