Taki Tachibana is the male protagonist of Makoto Shinkai's anime film Your Name (2017), created and directed by Shinkai and animated by Comix Wave Films. He also makes a cameo appearance in another Shinkai film, Weathering With You (2019).
Together with his partner Mitsuha Miyamizu, the pair were the stars of Shinkai's smash-hit film, garnering massive popularity among audiences throughout the globe. Naturally, this extends to their performance in anime popularity contests.
Taki made his first major appearance in China's Bilibili Moe in the year 2017, where he dominated his group in the Round of 128. In the bracket stage, he easily won against Ryuunosuke (Bungou) and Rin Okumura (Blue Exorcist), before losing to tournament favorite Kirito in the quarter-finals.
Tachibana would perform even better in his debut in the International Saimoe League's 2017 edition, securing a comfortable fifth-seed finish in the regular season. He then proceeded to defeat the likes of Touma and Kazuma in the playoffs, before losing to Hachiman Hikigaya in the semi-finals. Taki would continue to be a constant fixture in subsequent ISML contests, securing his first Sapphire pendant in 2018.
