Sora Kasugano is the main heroine of Yosuga no Sora, an adult visual novel developed by Sphere and adapted into a 2010 anime series. The fraternal twin sister of protagonist Haruka, Sora is described as having an "angelic, doll-like" appearance, with a frail body and an abrasive personality. She is also an orphan like Haruka; because of this she becomes possessive towards her brother and frequently fantasizes about him.
Sora is emblematic of the series' (in)famous reputation for its incestuous content and actually committing to it by depicting the siblings having sex unlike other incest-themed anime, even though the adaptation also includes other heroines' routes from the visual novel. She has garnered a loyal East Asian following in the saimoe contests, which continues to the present day via her consistent main tournament appearances in the International Saimoe League. Debuting in 2011, the Kasugano twin has appeared in nine ISML editions to date, including every edition from 2016 onwards, and has won an exhibition award by winning the emerald anklet in 2012.
Kasugano Sora had it tough in life – her weak health robbed her of her childhood, and fate took away her parents. This taught her to keep a firm grip on the few things she still holds in her hands, even if her possessiveness can sometimes be considered to border on the obsessive. When forced to move to the country, Sora immediately notices the downsides of her new situation: no Internet, no department stores, no civilization to speak of. But as long as she has her brother by her side, the last bit of family warmth left in her life, she is willing to grit her teeth and suffer through the ordeal.
She has no plans of making things easy on anyone involved, though. She has a wide range of scowling, frowning, and glaring techniques to exhibit her displeasure. And she will not be opening up to her new neighbors anytime soon. No one outside her family gets to see her more vulnerable side, which is not to say that she acts meek within the household. No, certainly not.
Sora's sharp tongue and dangerous attitude hide her true sensitivity. She fears losing someone close to her again and so takes a defensive approach to her relationships. But, she is aware of her own shortcomings and willing to work her way up from square one when it really matters. In her case, it might all be a matter of the right motivation.
