Shouto Todoroki is a character from Kouhei Horikoshi's manga and anime series My Hero Academia. He is a student of Class 1-A whose superpower is named "Half-Hot, Half-Cold", which enables him to conjure fire on his left side, and ice on his right. He is the result of both parent's quirks being combined into one child, as his father is a famous top-ranked fire-wielding professional hero, while his mother uses ice powers.
As one of MHA's most popular characters, Shouto was a prominent contestant in the male saimoe contests during the manga's heyday in the latter half of the 2010's. He was the only character from the series to reach the playoffs in the International Saimoe League, reaching the quarter-finals in ISML 2018 and placing 6th overall.
However, in 2020, the manga became controversial in China after a character named Maruta ShigaMHA Wikia rose to prominence in the story; his name and actions reference the codename of the Unit 731Wikipedia human experimentation project and war crime perpetrated by Japan during World War 2. Since Chinese users are the most active and vocal voters in ISML, the controversy killed any chance of MHA returning in the tournament in future editions, which meant that Todoroki's performance will never be repeated again.
