Shouko Makinohara is one of the heroines featured in the Seishun Buta Yarou light novel and anime series written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keiji Mizoguchi. Contest profile[]

As one of Sakuta's love interests, Shouko enjoys a moderate presence in the wiki's recognized major saimoe tournaments, where she usually edges out fellow cast members Rio Futaba and Tomoe Koga as the series' third-strongest representative.

In r/anime[]

Because of her minor role in the first anime season, Shouko was cut from the 4-character series limit in r/anime's Fall 2018 seasonal. She appeared in the same seasonal contest one year later after the anime film was released on North American theatres during that time. With the contest's roster deemed fairly weak by some users, Shouko reached the final match where she lost to the isekai goddess Ristarte. The girl also advanced to the quarter-finals of the following yearly contest by defeating Shielder and Maki Oze.

Makinohara missed out on her would-be first major character contest at 2020's Best Girl 7 because of the 5-character limit again, as Aobuta's last spot went to Nodoka Toyohama, who was seeded at #72. She finally made her debut in Best Character 5, losing in the third round to Meme Oshino. The next year, Makinohara made her first Best Girl at the eighth edition where she predictably reached the fourth round and lost to higher seeded Ram.

In ISML[]

Although Makinohara did not appear in ISML's corresponding seasonal tournament, she secured one of the 58 qualification spots of the highly contested 2019 regular season, surpassing even Kaede Azusagawa who failed to advance. She survived until the Sapphire wildcard round (fourth period). The dreaming girl managed to replicate the same result in 2020 -- which had a heavily overhauled tournament format -- as she was eliminated in the second split's group stage which lasted 3 periods and ended in Sapphire. She later advanced out of a consolation group during match 5 of the Diamond period, and eventually finished 32nd overall after playing in the next one held during the Diamond gem round.

Shouko returned in ISML 2021 with expectations of achieveing the same results as the last 2 years. She achieved her first exhibition gem appearance at Aquamarine after scoring 3 wins in the period.
