Reina Kousaka is a major character from Ayano Takeda's light novel series Sound! Euphonium and its Kyoto Animation TV adaptation.
The trumpet player is most popularly known for being shipped with the protagonist Kumiko Oumae. Their sexual tension is milked for all its worth in the anime, but since their relationship doesn't progress beyond close friends, online fans have called it an example of "yuri-baiting".
In the major saimoe contests, Reina is a typical minnow contestant with a vocal minority of supporters, but has shown occasional flashes of brilliance throughout her playing career. In r/anime's Best Girl Contest, Reina appeared in the fourth round on two separate occasions, and made her best result in its 8th installment where she reached the fifth round.
On the other hand, Reina made her first appearance in ISML's 2016 edition and performed unexpectedly well in the 2018 contest, surviving until the Diamond group stage where she was eliminated in the final wildcard round. Although she failed to qualify for the main tournament next year, she ended up winning its consolation prize -- the divine circlet -- after beating Kumiko in the deciding match.

"And the sound of her trumpet shall resound, breaking down the walls and shedding light to the path." Unlike her other laid-back classmates, Kōsaka Reina is serious in her pursuit to become the best musician possible. The inability to make it to the national band tournament in middle school made it all clear: she must practice more and harder than anyone in the group. Those who cannot catch up to her are not worthy to be playing near her. With her confidence and skill level greater than even her seniors, Reina is cautioned by students and musicians alike, but she does not mind. Behind the serious exterior lies a girl seeking a light in her own path. The revelation of her emotions in public would make her appear weak, so a stoic attitude and a change in perception are in order. Rather than show the naysayers want she wants from an emotional standpoint, Reina uses her music and technique as her sword and shield, reminding them why they are in the state that they are in and a means to fix it. In return, she hopes that there would be at least one person who would play back the melody that would grant her next step to finding her own path. Until that day comes, she will continue to practice until order is restored.
