Kurumi Tokisaki is a character from the Date A Live light novel series written by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako. She is best known for being a long-time contender and multi award-winning contestant of the International Saimoe League, and is also notable for her valiant semi-final fight against the eventual champion Rem in China's Bilibili Moe 2016.

My dear gentlemen. Always stick your dick in crazy hot bitches. Like this clock for instance.

Contest profile[]

Kurumi is one of the most popular characters in the series because of her sadistic "femdom" personality and a highly marketable design. She thrives in anime contests with a known Chinese contingent of voters, most notably the International Saimoe League and the local Bilibili Moe tournament. She stands behind only Kotori Itsuka as the most successful DAL girl, as the latter won ISML's Tiara in 2014 and finished runner-up in BMoe 2016 to Kurumi's third place.

in ISML
As Date A Live is popular among East Asian fans, its voting faction has a powerful presence in the contest, with Kurumi leading the series as one of its most recognizable characters. She is also a regular necklace contender, having appeared in the most rounds without a win prior to ISML 2019.

Kurumi debuted in the 2013 Spring seasonals, winning the diadem and that year's seasonal championship. In her first Main Tournament appearance in the 2014 Nova division, she placed 3rd in the regular season and in the subsequent division playoffs, but was upset by Oreimo's Ayase in the first round of the tiara bracket. Her elimination caused support to shift into her same-series rival Kotori instead, resulting in her winning the championship despite possessing a lower seed.

Since then, Kurumi's ISML campaigns have been characterized with good regular season performances and early playoff exits. After being eliminated the Nova division playoffs in 2015 and the playoff round-robin in 2016, she earned her best finish in the 2017 edition, placing 6th overall despite suffering a round of 16 loss to notable "sniper" Illya.

Kurumi's ISML 2018 appearance is the only edition where she failed to reach the playoffs, following a 5th place result in the diamond wildcard round -- one short of the 4th place needed to qualify. However, after the release of DAL season 3, she finally found some success in the 2019 contest by winning her first necklace award and reaching the quarter-finals of the playoffs. The Spirit became a top contender for the ISML 2020 tiara after posting a 32-3 regular season record and winning her second necklace, but suffered yet another loss in the round of 16 to 2019 runner-up Rin Tohsaka.

Tokisaki will compete in ISML 2021 as a directly qualified contestant and is expected to contend for the tiara again.

ISML Profile Flavor Text
(original link)

The complex and deceptive Tokisaki Kurumi, known to many as "Nightmare", is dreaded by all and friend to none.

She is gentle and brutal, insane and wise, thoughtful and impulsive, composed and hysterical. She is one and many... and even past and future. She is the best ally one can have, but also the worst possible enemy. She loves and hates, and she wants to destroy in order to save because she is a villain... but also a heroine.

Kurumi might choose to live peacefully among humans after having killed thousands of them or let herself get killed in order to avoid an unnecessary fight, but she might as well kill several human beings in order to save a kitty. She is a ruthless monster one instant, and a selfless hero the next one.

Mysterious and unpredictable, contradictory and undecipherable. No one knows what hides behind her maniacal laugh; no one knows what she is really thinking. Tokisaki Kurumi conceals it all behind the veil called “fear.”
