Hina Amano is the titular character of Makoto Shinkai's 2019 anime film Tenki no Ko (literally "Child of Weather"), also known as Weathering With You in the official English release. Set in the same universe as Your Name, Hina is a teenager nicknamed the "100% Sunshine Girl" because of her supernatural ability to manipulate the weather by praying. She serves as the love interest of male protagonist Hodaka Morishima.

Hina is first seen in the movie as a part-time worker at McDonald's, where she secretly gives Hodaka (who ran away from home to Tokyo) a free Big Mac. She later meets the protagonist while she is being hit on by suspicious-looking men. Feeling that the girl is threatened, Hodaka decides to save her by threatening them with a gun and running away. At an abandoned building, Hina reveals her weather-manipulating power to Hodaka. They later establish an online rain-clearing service alongside her younger brother Nagi, which uses her powers to clear the skies of rain-filled Tokyo for profit.
In ISML[]
The movie was originally released in Japanese theaters on July 19th 2019, and was later shown in multiple countries throughout the rest of the year, such as India, Russia, South Korea, China, and most Southeast Asian countries. This reason was enough for Hina to compete in ISML's 2019 Fall seasonal. As one of the heroines of the ever-popular Makoto Shinkai series of films, Hina emerged as the top seeded contestant, but unfortunately lost to the Fate/Grand Order faction-backed Ishtar -- who would eventually win the diadem -- and had to settle for third place instead after beating Ristarte.
The sunshine girl then competed in ISML 2020's main tournament, where she kept pace with the contest's typical regulars in the first two splits, but then her performance took a nosedive at the third one after finishing dead last in her group with only a win against Aoyama. Although she made it further than Shinkai's best player Mitsuha in the competition, she ultimately placed ten spots below her (29th > 39th) after poor results in the consolation rounds.
In r/anime[]
On the other hand, the movie's early 2020 release in North America caused Hina's relatively later appearance in r/anime's seasonal contests. She made the semi-finals of the Spring 2020 tournament as a #12 seed, notably facing against three Tower of God girls in consecutive matches. Hina's first major contest in the subreddit was in 2021's Best Girl 8.
