The character is officially marketed using her name in Eastern order. The family name is Hatsune.

Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid software voicebank developed by Crypton Future Media. Her official moe anthropomorphism is a 16-year old Japanese idol with long turquoise hair styled in twin-tails. As a personification, Miku has been featured in a wide variety of media such as anime, manga, video games, and even as a virtual idol in real concerts. She is considered a pop culture icon.

Since her release in 2007, Miku became eligible in 2channel's Anime Saimoe Tournament and Anizone's Best Moe Tournament in 2008 (and also 2009 on the latter) due to a cameo appearance in season 2 of the anime Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. On the other hand, Miku's multimedia origins and anime cameos aren't sufficient for her to enter the International Saimoe League, but that didn't stop her from being nominated in ISML 2011 despite being an invalid nominee. She later won that year's very first exhibition gem — aquamarine bracelet.

In the imageboard website 4chan, Miku competed in the Queen of /v/ 2019 contest as the title character of Sega's rhythm game series Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, reaching the round of 16. However, she was disallowed in Queen of /v/ 2020 to the chagrin of some Mikufags, and has not been allowed back until today.
