Saimoe Wiki

Ruri Gokou, also known by her alias Kuroneko, is a primary character featured in the Oreimo light novel series, authored by Tsukasa Fushimi with illustrations by Hiro Kanzaki, and animated by J.C. Staff.

Kuroneko emerged as Oreimo's pre-eminent representative, and was part of the group of females that dominated the Nova / Stella era of the International Saimoe League. She enjoyed the most success in the contest from 2011 to 2013, winning a necklace in each year, and appeared in the semi-finals twice before winning the championship in 2013.

Ruri's biggest ISML rival is Kanade Tachibana, a fellow Kana Hanazawa-voiced character. The pair have met each other five times in the postseason: two division finals, two knockout matches, and a third place match. The Angel has won all of them except one --- the 2013 final, which saw Kuroneko win the Heavenly Tiara and deny Kanade her second straight championship in the process.

In 2channel's J-Saimoe contest, Ruri managed to reach the quarter-finals twice in 2011 and 2013, however, Madoka Magica's dominance led to her eliminations in both editions.

ISML Profile Flavor Text
Ruri gokou profile

Gokō Ruri, better known under her alias Kuroneko, is a top-class representative of otaku aristocracy.

A far cry from the bespectacled and sweaty stereotypical otaku, Kuroneko believes that extreme indulgence in a hobby does not lift the obligation to maintain a high standard of personal conduct. She goes to great lengths to maintain an air of dignity and sophistication. She seeks excitement only in the highbrow aspects of her hobby.

It would therefore save her a lot of trouble, and embarrassment, if the people around her did not misunderstand her character. Just because she spends her free time with a group of simple-minded individuals, it does not mean she likes them. If she puts on cat ear accessories, it is for experimental purposes only – why would she hold any interest in such things? Kuroneko's acquaintances always manage to find her with the worst possible timing, putting her ability to keep up appearances and make up excuses to the test.

The requirements Kuroneko sets for herself and the aloof attitude she relies on often do her more harm than good. They make it all the more difficult for people to get close to her, even when she seeks contact on her own initiative. Her insecurities are what prevents her from opening her heart to strangers. It would take someone really stubborn and inconsiderate to become Kuroneko's true friend...

Put first impressions aside, though, and you will discover that Kuroneko hides a gentle heart. She is merely careful about lowering her guard and showing her affection. When necessary, Kuroneko readily stands to her friends' aid, even if she has to sacrifice her pride in the process. But when everything is over with, she will never admit how hard she worked for them. Not everything needs to be put into words, right?
