Chiyo Sakura is the main female protagonist of Izumi Tsubaki's manga Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (also known as Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun) and its anime adaptation by the studio Doga Kobo. Chiyo debuted in Summer 2014, where she won the summer edition of  ISML's seasonal contest. Her first year in ISML 2015 as a competitor saw immediate success, winning the Ruby necklace and reached the quarter-finals of Phase 2, her best finish in the tournament. In the same year, she managed to perform a deep tournament run in China's inaugural Bilibili Moe contest, losing to Saber in the semi-finals and Asuna Yuuki in the consolation match for a fourth-place finish.

Sakura's career in the Best Girl Contest also saw success in her first few years, reaching the round of 16 in Best Girl 2 (2015), quarter-finals in Best Girl 3 (2016), and the round of 32 in Best Girl 4 (2017). However, Chiyo's next contests after that were plagued by bad match-ups in the early stages, and as a result, she never got past Round 3 for two years, having been eliminated by Tadokoro in BG5 and Chitanda in BG6.
