Kyoto Animation

This is a list of characters from anime produced (either partly or entirely) by the studio Kyoto Animation.

The studio is one of the most popular of its kind in the anime fandom, and is famous for its distinctive moe character design (like the eyes) and detailed art style. KyoAni has a profound influence on the otaku fandom and the moe aesthetic, ranging from Key visual novels (Kanon, Air, Clannad), CGDCT shows (Haruhi Suzumiya, K-On!, Lucky Star, Dragon Maid), rom-coms (Tamako, Chuunibyou, Amaburi), and even serious-themed shows (Kyoukai no Kanata, Hyouka, Violet Evergarden).

As a result, Kyoto Animation characters enjoy the most success in the saimoe tournaments, because cute girls is what the studio excels in. They have a distinction for having the most prominent faction of fans dedicated to the studio.

There's also Free!, which is a CGDCT-like show, but it's about boys from a swimming club. However, since saimoe is mostly voted by male fans, and Free! is a women-oriented show (i.e. fujoshis), their characters don't enjoy as much presence there unlike other KyoAni MCs.
