Ash Ketchum, also known as Satoshi in Japan, is the main protagonist of the Pokémon anime series, based on Nintendo and Game Freak's video game series of the same name. He is based on Red, the main protagonist and player character of the video game Pokémon Red and Blue.
Ash's Japanese name is named after Pokémon 's creator Satoshi Tajiri. His English surname, on the other hand, is a pun on the English tagline of the Pokémon series "Gotta catch 'em all!".
Ash is normally relegated as a mere stepping stone for other powerhouse characters in anime character popularity contests, despite his status as one of the most recognized anime characters. However, in China's Bilibili Moe contest, he managed to reach the quarter-finals in 2015 and fourth place in 2016 as a result of his exceptional performance in the anime Pokémon XYZ.

Life as a Pokémon Trainer is probably not as exotic as Satoshi would hope. Sometimes, his Pokémon barely listen to him and would good around instead of listen to him. Sometimes, he gets too ahead of himself and is reprimanded for his rash behavior. More often than not, he is constantly confronted by a couple goons who try to steal his Pokémon. However, the adventure towards his dream will be worth it.
Satoshi strongly believes that the best way to train one’s Pokémon is to treat them like family. Occasionally, he would meet people who abuse his or her authority over them or treat Pokémon as though they are mere statistical data. Satoshi may not be able to change their ways, but that is not going to stop him from challenging that kind of behavior. It does not matter who or what he is facing. With his Pokémon and friends by his side, he will stop anyone who tries to tarnish that bond.
